Mostly thanks to thrift shopping, over the past several years my cold weather jacket collection has gotten somewhat... out of hand. I blame living in Pittsburgh, which turned out to be the thrifty jacket capitol and where my collection seemed to multiply (thanks also to a thrift shopping habit fueled by too much time alone). I've reigned it back a bit over the years, but as we've already discussed, when you live in a cold-ass climate, a fun jacket jacket can make or break your winter style goals. This one has jumped from my closet to the 'to donate' pile more than once, but every time I wear it, I remember why I bought it (and with the menswear-inspired pieces that have been dominating lately, it's more relevant than ever). Tips for finding a great vintage jacket at the thrift store? Shop in the boonies, shop at the very beginning of the season (when everyone is getting rid of their old winter stuff and thrift stores finally put out seasonal pieces), and always check the men's section!

Paired with my vintage self-cropped jeans (which were thrifted in France, incidentally), Dr. Martens (my #1 purchase of 2017), and a vintage fisherman's cap, I thought the look struck the right balance of 60s-meets-90s and was surprisingly warm for a frigid day on the coast. Like, really really frigid. I'm not sure I've ever been so cold, so fast, but we absolutely needed to see the ocean on this day. And by "we" I mean me. Since signing the lease on our new place, I've been obsessively calculating the distance from our apartment to various beaches and guys, everything is so close. I can't wait for summer. But first, we gotta get through this winter. And for that we need... you guessed it... coats!
